Fueling Lindt Chocolate's appetite for growth
Lindt USA is one of the only U.S. chocolate manufacturers to manage the entire chocolate making process from bean to finished premium chocolate product. And, since 2006, Lindt has added 350,000-square feet of production, packaging and distribution facility space, including a new cocoa bean roasting facility, at its headquarters in Stratham, N.H.
During the expansion process, Lindt USA met with PSNH and the New Hampshire economic development team to discuss the advantages of doing business in New Hampshire, including low-cost labor and affordable real estate.
While PSNH views every customer relationship as mutually-beneficial, the company’s connection to Lindt has become truly symbiotic. In 2010 the two companies entered a partnership in which cocoa bean shells from Lindt’s bean roasting facility are mixed with coal and used in PSNH’s plant at Schiller Station. It’s a “sweet deal” for both companies.
“When we first met with Lindt’s six years ago, I don’t think either of us could have anticipated where the relationship would take us. Our use of their cocoa shells as a fuel source is a fantastic business arrangement, but it’s also symbolic of how our companies have seen each other as partners from the very beginning,” said Pat McDermott, PSNH Economic and Community Development Manager.
